 Kathleen Kim supervised the Loyola Immigrant Justice Clinic in its first successful petition for immigration relief for a victim of human trafficking and in its expanded offerings to aid DACA and other clients.
|
|
 Justin Hughes was asked to help negotiate bipartisan domestic copyright legislation to implement the Marrakesh Treaty, fostering access to works for people with disabilities.
|
|
 Karl Manheim testified about intellectual property and sovereign immunity before a subcommittee of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee.
|
|
 Katherine Pratt was elected a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel.
|
|
 Priscilla Ocen helped spearhead a California ballot initiative to give subpoena power to the Los Angeles County Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission, a watchdog panel on which she serves.
|
|
 Adam Zimmerman filed six amicus briefs and testified before the U.S. Court of Veterans Appeals and Dept. of Education, bringing his Yale Law Journal research on administrative class actions to federal practice.
|
|
 Marissa Montes was appointed by the California Senate Rules Committee to the California Gang Database Technical Advisory Committee.
|
|
 Kevin Lapp filed an amicus brief in C.J.L.G. v. Sessions, concerning the right to appointed counsel for immigrant minors facing deportation.

|
 Aaron Caplan co-wrote amicus briefs concerning harassment and free speech in state and federal courts in California, Ohio and Washington.
|
|
 Sam Buckingham brought her research on trauma and juvenile justice to 1,000 attorneys, probation officers and judges this year. She and Chris Hawthorne were also invited to speak to the Nat'l Council on Juvenile and Family Court Judges.

Loyola hosts prominent scholars from around the country at our many workshop series and colloquia. Recent and upcoming events include:

Immigration Politics: Shifting Norms, Policies & Practices. Held in concert with the Loyola Immigrant Justice Clinic and Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review, the symposium examined ways for immigration law practitioners and professors to teach, interpret and advocate amid changing Trump Administration immigration policy measures.
Fidler Institute on Criminal Justice. Filled with seasoned judges, prosecutors and defense attorneys, the 12th installment of the symposium addressed the legal issues presented by the #MeToo movement, transforming marijuana laws, the Russia investigation and the new parole system.
Loyola Social Justice Law Clinic Grand Opening. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti joined Loyola deans and faculty in commemorating a new campus facility housing many of Loyola's 21 live-client clinics, including the Collateral Consequences of Conviction Justice Project partnership in concert with his Office of Reentry. The Project has already helped 375 clients put past convictions behind them. Several other clinics also celebrated milestones, including the Loyola Project for the Innocent's sixth release of an unjustly convicted person, the Loyola Immigrant Justice Clinic's 10,000th consultation and the Loyola Center for Conflict Resolution's 60,000th client served.

Policing Los Angeles Forum Series. Professors Eric Miller and Sean Kennedy's ongoing dialogue on police practices has included law enforcement officials, watchdogs and scholars from across California for discussions on the privacy implications of police body cameras and corporate-created police policy.
Right of Publicity Reimagined. Professor Jennifer E. Rothman presented her new book, The Right of Publicity: Privacy Reimagined for a Public World, followed by a conversation with leading First Amendment litigators and scholars on this timely topic.
TechTainment 3.0: Technology + Entertainment. Hosted in partnership with the Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association, the annual event explored the emerging legal challenges of artificial intelligence, digital-rights disputes and negotiating for user-generated content.
21st-Annual Western Conference on Tax Exempt Organizations. Founded by Loyola Professor Ellen Aprill, this highly respected conference featured prominent tax-exemption experts discussing developments in nonprofit tax law related to the Trump Administration.
