THE SUMMER OF 2020: RACIAL JUSTICE & THE CRIMINAL LEGAL SYSTEM
(LAWW-4095) - 1 UNIT

After the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and Ahmaud Arbery, millions of people marched in the streets to demand justice. Largely mobilized by the Movement for Black Lives, the marches during June 2020 may mark one of the most significant protests in the history of the United States. Across the country, protestors called to "defund the police" and also asserted that "prison is no place for a pandemic." This course will examine the conversations that arose during the summer of 2020 that addressed racial justice and the criminal legal system.
