EUROPEAN CYBERSECURITY & DATA PRIVACY

In this course, students will learn about European privacy and data security law. This course examines the laws governing data privacy, data protection, and data security in the European Union (EU). Course materials will touch on and include the EU Data Protection Directive and the new General Data Protection Regulation (2018) (GDPR), the Data Protection Authorities and cybersecurity in Europe as well as new laws such as the ePrivacy Data Regulation, the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Students will also be introduced to privacy principles and rights, including the so-called "Right to Be Forgotten," comparing European Privacy Laws with other like laws, and how EU law affects US companies doing business in Europe or with European entities.
