EUROPEAN CYBERSECURITY & DATA PRIVACY
(LAWP-4019) - 2 UNITS
This course examines perceived modern threats to individual privacy, ranging from government surveillance to financial "identity theft?, from "big data" collected by social media and smart-phone apps to consumers? data collected by companies and stored in the cloud. In 2018, the European Union will make effective new data protection regulations, affecting data flows and business transactions worldwide. Any US company that processes data of European citizens or that stores/moves data within the boundaries of Europe must now address potential requirements to comply with EU privacy law. Future US lawyers must become fluent with the European privacy law framework to properly advise companies in a globalized market.
