ADVANCED FEDERAL TAX RESEARCH AND PLANNING
(LAWN-4056) - 2 UNITS

This class will offer an in-depth analysis of federal tax research methods and sources, covering both print and electronic formats, to develop an understanding of federal tax research as a process with attention to the comparative weights and relationships among various authorities. Students will use these research techniques to provide planning advice on a hypothetical business transaction and will be asked to draft a client memorandum and letter explaining the tax plan and structure. Students will be graded on homework assignments, the client memorandum and letter, and an oral presentation of the tax plan. There is no final examination. Students must work in teams of two.
