STATE AND MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT LAW
(LAWM-4020) - 3 UNITS
This course provides an overview of the form and structure of state and local government and explores broad issues attorneys must consider related to the impact state and local actors may have on their client's interests. Topics include: state constitutional law and public rights; distribution of authority between federal, state, and local governments; transparency, conflicts of interest and government ethics; due process; issues surrounding state and local provision of services and employment; state and municipal governance and oversight; and the impact of the "home rule" doctrine. Students will be evaluated based on class exercises and a final examination.
