ANIMAL LAW
(LAWI-4049) - 2 UNITS

This course will focus on the evolution, interpretation and enforcement of laws relating to the use and treatment of animals in our society; evaluation of whether, how and why such laws should be modified; and the possible ramifications of such change. The course will cover a wide array of animal law issues, including the legal classification of animals as property, loss of companionship/emotional distress, veterinary malpractice, anti-cruelty laws, constitutional standing to sue on behalf of animals, and the development of laws relating to commercial uses of animals.
