DISABILITY RIGHTS LAW
(LAWI-4010) - 2 UNITS

This course examines the growing area of federal and state law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of disability with particular emphasis on the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Fair Housing Act, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and California's disabilities civil rights statutes. The class will put the federal and state laws in the context of the history of the disability rights movement and the states' rights (federalism) movement. It will also introduce emerging issues in disability rights law, such as genetic discrimination, international disability rights law, assisted suicide legislation, and the internet. Please note that this course does not meet the upper division writing requirement as of spring 2023.
