INTRODUCTION TO PUBLIC INTEREST LAW
(LAWI-1010) - 3 UNITS

This elective for first year students will explore key themes and practice areas in contemporary public interest law. The course will introduce students to a variety of substantive practice areas, such as poverty law, homelessness, civil rights, education and other hot topics. Students will work in groups to present a topic they choose in order to educate the class about their chosen topic. Alumni and other faculty have agreed to be resources for the students as they examine their topics. Also, the course will examine the different settings and strategies used to promote social justice by lawyers. The course will take a problem solving approach as we look at possible cases and clients and discuss how best to meet their goals.
