Humanity is entering a new age of space exploration. Technological advancements have reduced the cost of going to Space, which has opened the door for more countries to become spacefaring. The space industry is one of the fastest-growing sectors of the global economy, with many of the world?s groundbreaking commercial space companies based here in Southern California.

This course will provide an overview of established and developing space law and policy and introduce students to international space law, domestic legislation and regulation, and national space policy, as well as comparative national space law. We will examine legal rules and norms through the lens of current issues in space policy such as space resources, orbital debris, and cultural heritage protection. The course will feature sector-leading guest speakers.

Course work will include short written assignments and class presentations, as well as a final paper.
