INNOVATION AND INEQUALITY
(LAWF-4100) - 2 UNITS

Governments incentivize technological innovation through a variety of mechanisms, including patents, grants, tax incentives, and prizes. In this discussion-based seminar, we will examine the relationship between these mechanisms (with a focus on patent law) and inequality, including as related to gender, race, income, and geography. We will first consider inequalities among those who receive innovation incentives, and then how innovation incentives affect inequality among others, including access to new innovations. Patent law is not a prerequisite; basic patent law concepts will be introduced in class.
