COPYRIGHT AND NEW TECHNOLOGIES
(LAWF-4053) - 3 UNITS

Throughout copyright's history, both the development of copyright law and the controversies surrounding it have been closely entwined with techological developments. This course is a comparative examination of how copyright laws in different jurisdictions have responded to the digital, networked environment. Focusing on the United States, the European Union, Japan, and China, we will explore how copyright law has developed to address circumvention of digital controls, internet service provider (ISP) liability, peer-to-peer (P2P) systems, unconventional ISPs like Twitter, cyberlockers, internet music licensing, and exceptions and limitations to the protection afforded by copyright protection and related rights.
