INNOVATION LAW
(LAWF-1011) - 3 UNITS

An overview of law and the New Economy, with an emphasis on law promoting innovation and the diffusion of technology. The central core of the course examines the interplay of intellectual property, competition (antitrust), and licensing law. Supplementary units will investigate legal conflicts over innovation, such as the Smartphone War, Huawei's power in 5G technology, and the EU's use of its competition law to check the dominance of Google. The final weeks of the course will review national security and international trade policies affecting innovation.
