PUBLIC DEFENDER'S PROCESS FIELD PLACEMENT
(LAWD-4040) - UNITS

The Public Defender Externship Workshop will cover the skills, best practices and knowledge needed to succeed in a public defender externship or clerkship. Topics will include: the role of the public defender; client interview basics; investigation basics; criminal defense research and writing skills; motion practice; and the ethics of criminal defense practice. Students will have multiple opportunities to receive feedback on written and oral advocacy and other professional skills necessary to effective criminal defense. Classes for the Public Defender Externship Workshop meet throughout the semester. Students who are concurrently enrolled in a public defender externship are eligible to enroll in the workshop, but must receive professor approval.
