FIRST AMENDMENT SURVEY
(LAWC-4022) - 3 UNITS

This class examines freedom of expression and freedom of religion. How does the First Amendment to the United States Constitution protect these freedoms, and for what purpose? Topics for discussion regarding expression include: speech that may be made illegal (such as defamation or obscenity), regulation of speech on public property, expressive association, speech in cyberspace, and speech at school. Topics for discussion regarding religion include: worship as a form of speech, religious exemptions from generally-applicable laws, and the prohibition on governmental endorsements of religion.
